New Toronto

Lakeshore West's Revival Neighbourhood

About New Toronto

New Toronto is a south Etobicoke neighbourhood with a proud industrial history and a future shaped by waterfront renewal. The area was once an independent village that grew up around the factories along Lake Shore Boulevard West, and its main street retains traces of that small-town commercial character. Today, New Toronto is experiencing a gradual revitalization as new residents discover its lakefront access, affordable housing stock, and excellent GO Transit connections. The neighbourhood's greatest asset is its proximity to Lake Ontario. The Waterfront Trail passes through the area, and Colonel Samuel Smith Park to the east provides a beautiful lakeside green space. New Toronto's residential streets feature a mix of modest bungalows, wartime housing, and newer infill projects. The Lakeshore West GO line provides fast service to Union Station, while the 501 Queen streetcar connects the neighbourhood to the broader city. Local restaurants and shops along Lake Shore Boulevard are slowly adding to the area's appeal. New Toronto is a neighbourhood in early-stage transformation, offering genuine waterfront affordability within an improving urban fabric.
