Milliken

Scarborough's Pan-Asian Cultural Powerhouse

About Milliken

Milliken is a vibrant, predominantly Asian neighbourhood in northeast Scarborough that has become one of the Greater Toronto Area's most significant Chinese, South Asian, and Southeast Asian commercial and cultural centres. The area along Steeles Avenue East and McCowan Road is dense with Chinese malls, dim sum restaurants, hot pot houses, and specialty grocery stores that attract diners from across the GTA. Beyond the bustling commercial strips, Milliken's residential streets are orderly and family-focused, with a mix of detached homes, townhouses, and low-rise apartment buildings. Milliken Park, one of Scarborough's larger green spaces, offers sports fields, a community centre, and a popular splash pad. The neighbourhood is home to several mosques, temples, and gurdwaras that reflect its diverse faith communities. While historically car-dependent, transit improvements including the planned Scarborough subway extension and bus rapid transit along Steeles are set to improve connectivity. Milliken is a neighbourhood where authentic cultural experiences are part of the daily fabric of life.
