Steeles is Toronto's northernmost neighbourhood, hugging the Steeles Avenue boundary line between the city and Markham. The area is heavily defined by the cultural energy of the surrounding Chinese, South Asian, and Southeast Asian communities, with Steeles Avenue and McNicoll Avenue serving as commercial corridors packed with dim sum halls, pho restaurants, bakeries, and grocery stores that rival anything in the suburbs of Richmond Hill or Markham. For food lovers willing to venture north, the payoff is enormous. Residential streets branch south from Steeles Avenue, offering a mix of post-war detached homes, newer infill townhouses, and mid-rise apartment buildings. The area is served by several parks, including L'Amoreaux Sports Complex, one of Toronto's largest recreation facilities.
