Weston

Historic riverside village undergoing a transit-driven renaissance

About Weston

Weston is one of Toronto's oldest communities, a former village along the Humber River that was incorporated long before the city swallowed it up. Weston Road, the main commercial strip, retains traces of that village character in its tightly packed storefronts, though the mix has shifted from old-school hardware stores to Caribbean bakeries, halal butchers, and dollar shops. The area is in the midst of a transformation driven by the arrival of the UP Express and GO Transit at Weston station, which has suddenly placed this working-class neighbourhood on a fast track to downtown. The Humber River is Weston's defining natural feature, its ravine corridor providing trails, fishing spots, and flood-plain parks that bring nature right to the neighbourhood's doorstep. The housing stock ranges from modest Victorian workers' homes near Weston Road to post-war semis and newer townhouse builds on the surrounding streets. Community organizations are active and vocal, working to ensure that the neighbourhood's revitalization benefits longtime residents as well as newcomers. Weston is a place with deep roots and an uncertain but exciting future.
