Humber Summit

Affordable Family Community Near the Humber's Northern Reaches

About Humber Summit

Humber Summit is a residential neighbourhood in the northwest corner of Toronto, bounded by Steeles Avenue to the north, the Humber River to the east, and Finch Avenue to the south. The area was developed primarily in the 1960s and 1970s as part of the suburban expansion of the former Township of North York, and its streetscape reflects that era: modest detached homes, semi-detached dwellings, and townhouse complexes on quiet residential streets, with larger apartment buildings clustered along the main arterials. The neighbourhood's population has diversified significantly over the past three decades, with large Caribbean, South Asian, and Latin American communities establishing deep roots. Finch Avenue West and Albion Road serve as the primary commercial corridors, where West Indian grocery stores, Jamaican patty shops, South Asian restaurants, and Latin American bakeries create a rich multicultural retail environment. The Humber Summit community is known for its tight-knit character, with neighbours who know each other and look out for one another. The Humber River, which forms the eastern boundary, provides the neighbourhood's primary natural asset. The river valley trails offer walking and cycling through wooded valleys and meadows, connecting south through the broader Humber Trail system all the way to the lakefront. Rowntree Mills Park, a beautiful green space in the river valley, is a local favourite for picnics, fishing, and autumn leaf viewing. While the area's distance from the subway makes it car-dependent, the future Finch West LRT will improve transit connections.
